How to Play Resident Evil 4 Remake in Virtual Reality (VR)

Resident Evil 4 (RE4) Remake is adding a special VR mode for PlayStation VR 2, but there's a way for PC VR users to enjoy it early. You can play RE4 on your PC with VR using Praydog's REFramework VR mod. Just follow these steps to install the mod and experience this updated zombie horror classic.

What's the VR Mod in Resident Evil 4 Remake?

The REFramework VR mod made by a developer named Praydog lets you play Resident Evil 4 Remake in third-person VR. This mod also works with other games made in the RE game engine like Devil May Cry, Street Fighter 6, Monster Hunter Rise, and newer Resident Evil games. It's a great way to enjoy RE4 on your PC VR headset, especially since the official VR mode for PSVR 2 won't arrive until late 2023.

To run Resident Evil 4 Remake in VR, you'll need a decent gaming PC. For smoother performance, it's a good idea to lower the graphics settings to low or normal if you're currently playing on high or ultra settings. You can also improve the frame rate by turning on AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution feature.

First, open the RE4.zip file and put its contents into the installation folder. If the computer asks to replace any files, say yes. After you finish adding the mod, connect your VR headset to your PC and make sure SteamVR is running.

Next, go to the installation folder and start the game. You might see a message saying the game will start in VR. Just click through the message and start the game. Thanks to Praydog's REFramework VR mod, Resident Evil 4 Remake will now be in VR mode.

[NOTE: Make sure Steam Overlay and Desktop Game Theater are disabled in Steam General Settings before launching the game.]

Play Resident Evil 4 Remake in First-Person View

Usually, Praydog includes a first-person view in all his Resident Evil mods. But this time, he decided to wait until the official PSVR2 version is available. He's worried that releasing it now might affect Capcom's game sales and make them take down his project. So, for now, we can only play the game in third-person mode in VR until the official version arrives.

Good news! You can actually play Resident Evil 4 Remake in VR with a first-person perspective. All you have to do is install a mod called "First-Person Perspective" created by elsuperaguas. But keep in mind, this mod is still in the testing phase (beta), and setting it up can be a bit tricky. So, if you'd rather have an easier time, you might want to wait for Praydog to add a first-person mode to their RE4 mod.

But if you're eager to give the first-person mode a try right now, there are some things you'll need to do. You'll have to install several mods using the Fluffy Mod Manager to get the game running in first person.

Mod Required Purpose
Fluffy Mod Manager To install all mods
First Person Perspective To play the game in first-person mode
Headless Leon So you don't see Leon's eyes
Headless Main Characters To play as Ashley or the Mercs
Laser for every handgun To align the weapon to the reticle

To begin, please download all the files mentioned in the list. Additionally, make sure to get the latest version of Fluffy Manager 5000 from FluffyQuack's website. After you've downloaded it, extract the files. Run the mod manager one time and select Resident Evil 4 as the game.

The mod manager usually automatically finds the game files for you. But if it doesn't, you can manually tell it where to look. Just click on "Define Game Path" or "Choose Game Folder," and then select the folder where Resident Evil 4 Remake is installed. After that, click "Select Folder," and the mod manager should know where to put the mods.
