Ram is set to explore new horizons with electric trucks.

Ram 1500 REV

The brand-new Ram 1500 REV electric truck is gearing up to be one of the most capable electric vehicles out there. The REV promises high-tech features, impressive performance, and lots of towing power, which is exactly what most Ram truck fans want.

In 2022, they gave us a sneak peek of the first Ram electric truck, and in early 2023, they revealed a concept that looked pretty wild. Shortly after, Stellantis (the parent company of Ram Trucks) showed us a more finished version of the Ram 1500 REV, which should hit the roads around 2024 or 2025. Don't think they're toning down this truck's toughness just because it's electric. Here are a few things to keep in mind as we eagerly await its arrival.

7. The Ram 1500 REV: What It Can Do

Ram 1500 REV

Ram will only have two choices for the battery packs, and they'll give you about 350 or 500 miles of driving on a single charge. But each battery has its own features, like how fast they can go and how much they can tow.

The smaller 168 kWh battery is pretty strong, with 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. That means it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and tow up to 14,000 pounds. But Stellantis, the company behind Ram, is keeping quiet about the bigger battery's details.

No matter which battery you pick, you'll get all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, which makes it easy to move around. There's also an adjustable air-ride suspension that can help the truck be more aerodynamic on the highway or give it extra clearance for off-road adventures. Plus, there's a powered front trunk with a whopping 15 cu.-ft. of storage space, which is the best in its class.

6. A Trim Option for Everyone

Ram trucks are going big on their electric truck, the Ram REV. They're offering seven different versions for folks to pick from. What's cool is that all of them will have all-wheel-drive, two battery options, and come in various styles and luxury levels. We don't have all the details yet on what sets each one apart, but you can start with the basic Tradesman model or go fancier with the Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Long Horn, Limited, or Tungsten.

Ram is even teasing an eighth model, the Ram 1500 REV XR, which they claim will have a crazy good range. And down the line, we might see a wild 1500 REV TRX edition with some snazzy artificial engine sounds, kind of like what they're doing with the electric Dodge Charger SRT.

The Ram 1500 REV comes with just two battery choices and all-wheel drive. So, the differences in the various trim levels will likely focus on what's inside and extra stuff you can add. For instance, the basic Tradesman is more of a work truck, while the Rebel will have a tough off-road look. And then there's the Tungsten, which is expected to be the fanciest and could cost around $90,000 or even more.

In the pictures above, you can see that Ram has spiffed up the interior with options like sunroofs, big infotainment screens, and a horizontal LED screen for folks in the back. The fancier trims also have really nice leather seats, better sound systems, and lots of safety features to help with driving. The Tungsten trim even comes with a super-premium 23-speaker Klipsch sound system.

When you sit in the driver's seat of the Ram 1500 REV, it'll feel familiar if you've been a Ram fan for a while. They're sticking to their roots by using good materials, comfy seats, big screens, and plenty of buttons.

5. The RAM 1500 REV Charges Rapidly with 800V

Sure, having a big battery and a long driving range is awesome, but what about charging? Well, the new electric Ram 1500 REV has got that covered too. It can charge up super fast with its 800V technology. In just 10 minutes on a 350 kW charger, you can add 110 miles of driving range.

And here's something cool – you can use the Ram 1500 REV to power things other than just the truck. It can send electricity back to your house or be a handy power source for outdoor events, like tailgating or camping. Plus, it has outlets in the truck bed, so you can plug in your gear easily.

4. It Can Go Up to 500 Miles on a Single Charge

Ram 1500 REV

Being one of the last big car companies to make an electric truck has its advantages. Ram knows where other trucks fall short, especially when it comes to how far they can go on a single charge, especially when doing tough truck stuff like towing, which can use up the battery quickly.

The Ram 1500 electric truck will have really good range because it can come with one of two different batteries. The basic choice for each model comes with a 168.0 kWh battery that the company says can take you about 350 miles on one charge. If you want to go even farther, there's a bigger 229 kWh battery option that might give you around 500 miles, but that's just an estimate. In 2024, the regular gas-powered Ram trucks are switching from the V8 Hemi engine to a twin-turbo "Hurricane" V6, which should use less fuel. So, the fact that the electric version can go almost 500 miles is a pretty big deal.

But here's the thing, when these trucks actually come out at the end of 2024, other truck companies might have something even better to offer. So, while it sounds great now, who knows if it'll still be the best then.

3. It Can Tow More Than Any Other

Ram 1500 REV

Ram is claiming that the new 1500 REV will be the best when it comes to towing among electric trucks. They're aiming for a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 2,700 pounds. These numbers are higher than what other electric trucks can tow, including the F-150 Lightning with its 7,700 to 10,000-pound limit and even Chevy's upcoming Silverado EV, which can only haul 10,000 pounds.

It's worth noting that these impressive numbers are for the smaller battery pack option available for the 1500 REV. If you go for the extended-range battery, you can expect slightly lower towing and payload capacities. Ram trucks are known for their toughness and versatility, suited for all kinds of jobs. If Ram wants its loyal customers to make the switch to an electric vehicle, it needs to keep providing capable trucks. However, we'll have to wait and see how much towing affects the battery life and driving range.

2. When Can We Expect the Ram 1500 REV?

Ram 1500 REV

One of the biggest questions we can't fully answer yet is when the first-ever electric Ram truck will arrive. According to the official Ram Trucks website, it's scheduled for release in late 2024. However, it's probable that only a few trucks will be available that year, and for most people, they might not hit dealer lots until early 2025.

Also, at first, there might not be many options to choose from in terms of models and features. Ram could focus on selling the more expensive versions initially to cover their expenses. Unless something changes between now and the end of 2024, the Ram 1500 REV will be an exciting new electric truck with a lot to offer when it finally becomes widely available in 2025.

1. What Will the Ram 1500 REV Pricetag Be?

Ram 1500 REV

Now, you might be wondering about the price, but Stellantis hasn't told us yet. However, there's a suggested starting price going around on the internet, according to Kelly Blue Book, and it's about $58,000 for the basic model. That's in the ballpark of the $59,000 Ford F-150 Lightning, but it could end up a tad pricier.

If you want fancier versions like the Big Horn or Laramie, you'll likely need to shell out more, perhaps around $75,000 for the Rebel, and probably close to $90,000 for the top-of-the-line Tungsten. Keep in mind, these are just estimates, and they don't include things like dealer fees and other costs. So, be ready to open your wallet if you want one.
