Watch Monday Night Football For Free This Season

"Monday Night Football" is coming back to ABC after 17 years.

In a surprising move, Disney says they'll show all the 'Monday Night Football' games on both ESPN and ABC this season. This means more people can watch 'Monday Night Football' because ABC is a regular TV channel – you can watch it for free with a TV antenna. Plus, you can find ABC on basic cable and streaming services like Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, and fuboTV.

Did you know that ABC used to be where 'Monday Night Football' started? But in 2006, ESPN took over. Since then, it's mostly been on cable, so this is a big change. From October 2nd to December 4th, all the games will be on both ESPN and ABC. There's even a game on December 30th and two on January 6th. And don't forget, playoff games in mid-January will also be on both ESPN and ABC.

The reason for this switch-up is because of strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. With no writers or actors, Disney is having a hard time filling ABC's schedule. So, they're using football to attract more viewers. It seems to be working—the first game of the 2023 'Monday Night Football' season on September 11th was on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2, and it got a lot of viewers, breaking records.

While football fans might be happy about it, cable companies aren't too happy with Disney's plan for "Monday Night Football." In private talks with Sports Business Journal, cable bosses said they don't like how Disney is putting this expensive show on ABC, which is a regular TV channel. Cable companies pay a lot for ESPN, more than any other channel, and they often use it to get people to buy fancy cable packages. So, by showing "Monday Night Football" on ABC, Disney is making cable TV seem less valuable.

If you want to watch "Monday Night Football" without paying, you can do this: get a TV antenna and plug it into the back of your TV. Then, look for channels (your TV might do this by itself) and watch ABC. Use a map to check if ABC works in your area. Remember, ABC is also on basic cable and you can watch it on services like YouTube TV.
