Google's At a Glance widget is a handy tool to keep you informed about your upcoming appointments, weather updates, commute info, and flight details. However, its design has looked the same for a while. Pixel phones got a new design with Android 12, but other smartphones were stuck with the old look from Android 11. Google has now announced a change in the latest update, and reports suggest that the new widget is rolling out more widely.
The updated At a Glance widget is appearing on various devices for users with Google app version 14.39.35.28, which is currently in beta. However, some people with different versions have also reported getting it, so it seems like it's being gradually rolled out. After updating the app, the new widget may not show up right away. In some cases, a simple restart of your device might make it appear. If you already use the At a Glance widget, the new version will automatically replace the old one, so you don't need to do anything manually.
The updated At a Glance widget looks quite different from both the old and current designs you find on Pixel phones. While it still does the same things, the new widget has a rounded shape with the weather information in a small colorful section on the right side. There's also a new menu with three dots in the middle, right between the date (or what you're currently doing) and the weather. This menu lets you choose what events and reminders you want to see on the widget, and you can also change how it looks by picking a solid, see-through, or slightly see-through background.
Google talked about this new widget back in September as part of their regular updates for Android. They said it would use AI to show you the most important information, but so far, we haven't seen any new features with this new design. People who dig into the Google app's code also didn't find any new AI tricks.
We're not sure if Google will change the fixed At a Glance widget on Pixel phones to match the same style, but it might stay the same since you can't remove it. It would be a good idea to keep it simple so your wallpaper still looks nice.
Google is also updating its weather forecast to match the new style of the At a Glance widget, which is inspired by Material You.
